Welcome to Oakhurst STEAM Academy

Dear Oakhurst Rockets and Families,

Welcome to Oakhurst STEAM Academy! There is something truly special about this place. Oakhurst is more than a school—it is a family, a community, and a place where children are
encouraged to dream big, discover who they are, and believe in what they can become. We are a partial STEAM magnet nestled in the east Charlotte corridor, and we are home and hope for about 500 students. Our students experience daily STEAM integration in core classes; one of our Special Area classes is STEAM, and all students rotate through it.

Our student population is very diverse, representing a wide range of countries and cultures from around the world. Each year, we celebrate significant academic gains for students; this year will be no exception. We believe that students should have fun and learn in school, so we take special care in developing the whole child. We have a yearly musical, host clubs monthly for students, have a yearly STEAM fair, and our students participate in various field trips to enhance their learning.

What makes Oakhurst so special is our staff; they give so much of themselves to our students each day. Our staff celebrate the little victories, stay late to help a child, find creative ways to bring learning to life, and continue to believe in students even when things get hard. Our families are equally important to our success. When school and home work together, there is no limit to what our children can accomplish.

This 2026-2027 school year, we are raising the bar, growing 1% better; every student, every day. This is grounded in our belief that small instructional changes will have a big impact
on our students. We are focused on becoming better people, better students, and on doing things better. That doesn't mean we have to be perfect. It means we will continue to grow, learn, reflect, and push ourselves to be better than we were yesterday. We will celebrate progress. We will embrace challenges. We will take risks and will remind one another that greatness is often found in the small, consistent choices we make every single day. For those who may be new to our school family, I would also like to share a little about the person behind the principal's office. This is my 26th year in education, and I have been blessed to serve in many different roles throughout my career—as a middle school teacher, Math Facilitator at the elementary and middle school levels, District Math Specialist, and Assistant Principal.

I am a native Charlottean and a proud product of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, graduating from West Charlotte High School. Charlotte is not just where I work; it is home, and serving children and families in the community that helped shape me is something I hold very close to my heart. Away from school, my greatest joy and most important role is being a mom to my 12-year-old daughter, Kaylyn. Being her mom has given me an even deeper understanding of the trust families place in educators every day. When you send your child through our doors,you are trusting us with a piece of your heart—and I want you to know that I understand the weight and privilege of that trust.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your child's journey. Thank you for partnering with us. Thank you for believing in Oakhurst. It is an absolute honor to serve as the principal of a school filled with so much heart, talent, creativity, and possibility. I am so excited for this year—not because I know exactly what the year will bring, but because I
know we will be in this together.
